#FF Shout out to Dean Heuman

It's not often that I get a chance to recognize someone from Twitter whom I not only consider an "A-lister" in terms of engagement but who is also a long-time friend. This month I found just that with Dean Heuman (@dheuman), Principal and co-owner of Focus Communications in Edmonton, Alberta. Dean and I went to university together and then - as is the case now - he is an incredible communicator. Someone whom I feel tells it like it is...and what better quality in a friend or a partner in your communications plan.

One of the things that I like best about his recent "Tweep in Profile" interview with my host/producer Donna Papacosta (@donnapapacosta) was his advice to his clients after experiencing and seeing many a stumble in the social media sphere. Before hitting send or posting to your various accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and now Google+ - pause for 10 seconds to ensure that you are comfortable with what you are about to post and won't regret it down the road.

His philosophy of teaching his clients to "fish" vs fishing for them in the social media pond is one that I think we all can agree - especially when it comes to engaging, relationship building and establishing a personal or corporate brand directly with your followers. I think you'll enjoy the lively discussion between Dean and Donna - and most importantly - will also see the benefit of following him on Twitter.
