So as many of you know, at the beginning of this month I launched my "pet project" for 2011 - which is to entice 1,000 fellow Canadians to check out and "Like" my friends at Arment Dietrich on Facebook. I am happy to report back that it continues to garner interest as well as several new fans for Gini, Daniel, Molli, Patti and the rest of the team. For those of you who have yet to check out their Facebook page, I thought I would share Gini's latest from her segment on Spin Sucks known as the "Question of the Week from Facebook" to give you a taste of what to expect.
As you'll see from this week's topic she is a big fan of product placement designed to generate interest in a brand (and if you've ever watched "The Biggest Loser" you'll know prime examples of this as Bob and Jillian drop in various sponsor related products into their training programs.) If we think about it this is not a new concept but there are folks who do it right and those that just fail to hit the mark. I personally prefer more subtle approaches to product placements but each to his/her own.
The one point I highlighted in Gini's answer was to not forget about the all important bloggers and to ensure you do your homework on them (i.e. proper shirt size, etc.). Especially if you want them to feature your brand or your client's brand in their posts. If you have an opinion on product placement or trying to generate brand awareness through these practices why not drop by Arment Dietrich's Facebook page and join in on the conversation as well as check out some of the other topics of conversation there. In the meantime, have a safe and happy holiday and we'll return in 2011.

Well, I'm one step ahead, as I've been a FB fan of Arment Dietrich for awhile now, and I'm also Canadian.
They have such great content. Gini and SpinSucks especially rock!
You are crazy, yet I love you tons! Thank you!!
And Kevin! I just saw your comment. THANK YOU!!
Hey if you can't have fun with your friends and Social Media what and who can you have fun with! :)
Thanks BFF
One thing that has changed in the US though I do not see being enforced yet, is the FTC or FCC in the US handed down rules that anyone who is paid to tweet or blog must state this in the piece of content. Paid also means free product as well.
This is similar to the rules on Stock Analysts who must state whether they or their employer own shares in a specific investment.
Unlike TV where we know its kind of a con-game for celebrity endorsements (does Tiger Woods really drive a Buick? It was his Escalade he crashed right?), though not so much product placement. I have friends who are set decorators so seeing a product and equating using it aren't as compelling as say having someone say they tried it and used it.
As for Gini be careful. She has been struggling with getting the right mix of temperature, snow, and wind for me outside and blames EBay for messing up her order. Her blog and marketing street cred. rocks but weather procurement seems not to be a core competency.
Thanks, Andy! This is fun!
Howie. You've lost your mind.
